My wife Courtney and I grew up in the Mid-West, and I first came to New York in 2000 as a New Cadet at the US Military Academy at West Point. Courtney later moved here in 2008 as a NYC Teaching Fellow. After we got married, we moved to Weeks Avenue in Cornwall-on-Hudson in 2013 with our six-week-old son for my assignment as an Economics teacher at West Point. When the Army re-assigned us to various postings around the Country, we knew we wanted to return to CoH in the future, so we maintained the Weeks Avenue home. Meanwhile Courtney worked for a Veterans’ Service Organization for a decade before opening her own small business a couple years ago. Her firm supports veteran, medical, housing and education nonprofits to plan their strategy and improve their operations. When I decided to retire from the Army, we returned with now three boys to put down roots and be a part of the vibrant, engaged, and wonderful community that is Cornwall-on-Hudson. Throughout our lives and careers, we have lived many places and there is nowhere like here.
Our Story
When I first decided to attend West Point in 2000, the world was a quieter place. That all changed my sophomore year on 9/11. When I graduated and commissioned as an Engineer Officer in 2004, I volunteered to go to Fort Bragg and became a paratrooper. Deployment to Afghanistan followed in 2006 where I led a platoon in combat. After completing my Masters in Civil Engineering in 2008 focused on hydrology, I then took command of an engineer company and led them in combat in Iraq in 2009. The Department of Social Sciences selected me to return and teach Economics, so I then completed a Master of Business Administration at the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania in 2013, focused on Business and Public Policy. I then taught economics and finance to the Cadets and served for two of those years as the Department Academic Counselor for the Economics majors.
The Army then sent us to various assignments, including Washington, DC from 2020-2022 where I worked at the Army Corps of Engineers Operations Center. In that role, I coordinated national disaster response for hurricanes, wildfires, COVID, and deployed to Kuwait and Iraq to oversee the Operation Inherent Resolve construction program including trash/water/electric/sewer and hazardous waste services for Al Asad Airbase. In January 2021, I was detailed to the Joint Task Force, National Capital Region. To finish out my career, we returned to Fort Bragg where I commanded a battalion in the 82nd Airborne Division and then retired at 21 years of service.

Today, our three boys attend Cornwall schools, one at Cornwall Middle School and two at Cornwall-on-Hudson Elementary, and are deeply involved in sports, music, drama, and local activities. Like many families here, we spend our time on ball fields, at community events, and enjoying the Village’s parks, riverfront, and traditions. This is home in the fullest sense of the word.
In retirement, I’ve enjoyed coaching Little League and Cornwall Youth Basketball, watching the boys play Cornwall Youth Football and Soccer, and attending Army Football games. We love the outdoors, kayaking on the Hudson, taking our camper to New York’s wonderful state parks, hiking Storm King Mountain and other trails. I’m a lifelong Colts Football fan, I scuba dive, ran the Marine Corps Marathon six times and play softball whenever I can.
